Venus De Kooning

This has become one of my favorite pieces, and I originally made it to give away. Another sculptor that I knew invited me to go with one of his classes to visit the De Kooning studio, and his daughter Lisa would give us the tour. I was excited about the prospect and made Venus to give to her out of my respect for the influence of her father. She had to call off the visit and I've been more than happy to keep the piece. I've thought in terms of paintings for awhile and this clarified my description of "what I do". I carve paintings out of stone. I can say to people that if Willem De Kooning could have carved the Venus de Milo this would be that piece. Yeah, I know it's bullshit, but it sounds great.
