Am I Going to Heaven, Hell, or the Next Guggenheim?
I responded to this piece immediately when that ton was delivered, but I found a
quarry fault and put it aside the idea of making some Frank Ghery/Guggenheim
inspired sculpture. Almost a year later I wanted to make a couple of arrows and
examined the piece again. Using that side for the arrows would keep the majority
of that side intact for stability. The white, misty interlayer between the
arrows and the structure was simply that until an "eye" popped out and continued
to elongate rather than shrink when I carved deeper. I wanted to at least
abstract the eye as much as possible, and I was able to carve the hints of faces
emerging from the mist and looking out in both directions .
Am I Going to Heaven, Hell, or the Next Guggenheim? still seems like a good, but
somewhat pompous, question.
